God Bless Mateo & Sebastian

Yesterday marked a special day for 2 special little boys, Mateo and Sebastian as they were Christened.  Norma, my dear friend, and her husband were Godparents and Norma was kind to refer us to Mateo and Sebastian's mom Amy.

The bottom tier is red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and the top tier is vanilla cake with white chocolate mousse and fresh strawberries.  Amy had mentioned that she liked the quilted look she had seen on a previous cake we had done and she also mentioned that she would like a small rosary.

The 2 little sleeping gum paste babies are covered by little fondant blankets with a rosary near by. The rosary is done in gum paste pearls with little blue dragee and a gum paste cross.

We added a gum paste cross in front with gum paste doves on the message banner as well as the other sides of the top tier.

Congratulations to Mateo and Sebastian
and their family.

A very Mickey birthday

This past Saturday was Nyan's 3rd birthday. Nyan is a very big Mickey Mouse fan, who isn't. His Mom Nerine, who has ordered from us before, asked if we could make Nyan's cake and cupcakes.

Nyan's Mickey cake is vanilla with vanilla cream filling. All details are fondant.  Mom also requested 4 dozen cupcakes.  2 doz vanilla, 1 doz strawberry and 1 doz red velvet.

Cupcakes frosted in vanilla butter cream tinted red with fondant Mickey heads and buttons.

Happy Birthday Nyan!

Gaetano's Angry Birds Birthday

Also on December 10th we had a three-peat on the Angry Bird's cake for Gaetano who turned 5.  These are Mel's new neighbours and when she was looking through our blog they fell in love the Angry Bird's cake we did for Jackson and since Gaetano is a big Angry Bird's fan they asked if we could do it again.

This cake was like Jackson's only a different game happening.  The cake is vanilla with vanilla mousse and fresh strawberries.

Happy Birthday Gaetano!

Anthony's 2nd Birthday

Well we're playing a little catch up here as Anthony's birthday party was held on Sunday December 10th.  His dad, Robert asked if we could make Anthony a birthday cake for his 2nd birthday with a "Cars" theme.  Anthony loves "Cars" and was receiving a couple of the characters for his birthday which would be placed on the cake at the party. The request for the cake was a # 2 vanilla cake with cookies & cream for the filling.

Not only does Anthony love "Cars" he also loves mowing the lawn with his Dad, so we added a little gum paste mower for him.

Anthony's Mom happens to be Italian so Dad requested we incorporate the Italian flag somehow, so we added fondant flags around the cake sides.

Happy Birthday Anthony!
We hope you had a wonderful day!

It's starting to feel a lot like Christmas........

Among the 3 cakes we did this weekend, we also managed to make a couple for our own festivities. The first is a cake we did for Phil's company Christmas party which Mel, Phil and kids attended last night.

Mel decided on a Santa cake this year and with Phil's request the cake is vanilla with vanilla mousse & fresh strawberries for the filling. Santa's hat and face are fondant and his beard & mustache along with the hat trimmings are created with butter cream.

This second Christmas cake was also for a early Christmas gathering of a few neighbours and friends which has become an annual thing. Hosted by our dear friends and neighbours Wendy & Kim.

Last year is was cupcakes this year I decided that a Christmas themed cake was in order.  This stocking is vanilla cake with a little kick. We crushed some candy canes and threw it into the batter which proved to be a hit. We filled it with white chocolate mousse. All details are fondant with real candy canes filling the stocking.

It was a fun night shared by all and even Santa dropped by for a visit.
Remember it's only 23 sleeps until Christmas!

Thomas the train!

Katherine reached out to us and asked us to help make her son Ryan's 1st birthday even more memorable with a special cake.  The theme was Thomas the Train and as Ryan already had a little Thomas engine, we just supplied the scenery via his cake.

This cake was so much fun to make. Katherine had asked for a simple slab and if possible incorporate Thomas the train. Well actually this would work with any little train.  This 9x13" is our chocolate stout cake filled with white chocolate mousse.  All details are made from fondant.

Wedding bliss in Cuba!

Terri contacted us for this special cake. Her daughter was married in Cuba a couple of weeks ago and on their return, her family was holding a small get together to help celebrate.  Since it was a destination wedding, the theme of the wedding reception held here was a fun and sun beach theme.

This 2 tiered cake is vanilla cake with white chocolate mousse, keeping it deliciously light. The sea shells are all made from gum paste and brought to life with edible dusting colours. A mixture of brown sugar and graham cookie crumbs make up the sand.

We wish the happy couple many years of happiness!

21st Soccer n' pink

A happy 21st birthday celebrated by Kristen this past Friday. Her sister sister contacted Mel and asked if we could come up with a cake to surprise Kristen.  As Kristen is an all pink girly girl but loves soccer, her sister asked us to include a soccer ball, a black high heel and include pink.

This 2 tiered cake is vanilla cake with chocolate mousse filling. The shoe is made from gum paste, all other details are fondant.

Happy 21st Birthday Kristen!

Tony's 40th

This past Saturday night marked a mile stone for Tony who happens to be a good friend of Mel's. Tony's fiance Sarah planned a surprise party to celebrate and asked if we could make a cake to mark the special event.

As Tony is very big into baseball and coaches, Sarah asked if we could make the cake a baseball theme.  She provided a picture of Tony with the championship medals won by his team.

The picture is an edible print and the cake is covered and detailed in the team colours of black & orange.  The requested flavour for this cake was Chocolate Guinness filled with white chocolate mousse.

Happy 40th Tony!
and wishes for many more wonderful years.

God Bless Alina

It doesn't seem that long ago that we made a baby shower cake for Melissa and Marko's little bundle. This past Sunday they celebrated their little Alina's Christening and once again asked if we could make a cake for the celebration.

Melissa had a specific design in mind and asked that a little pink and silver be added. She also sent us a picture of little Alina's shoes that would be worn on her Christening day and asked if we could make a similar pair for the top of the cake.

The shoes and all the daisies are made from gum paste. The 2 tier cake is our very popular Chocolate Guinness cake filled with white chocolate mousse.

We had the pleasure of meeting little Alina when Melissa and Marko came by to pick up the cake. She is one very pretty and special little girl and we wish her all the best.

Goodbye tummy, hello Mummy

This past Saturday marked a special day for Priya and her hubby as friends and family celebrated the soon arrival of their little baby girl.  Jaya, Priya's sister contacted us requesting a similar cake to one we had recently done, our "goodbye tummy, hello mummy" cake for a jack & jill baby shower being given.

Since Priya and her husband Andrew know that they are expecting a little girl Jaya asked that the colours used were pink & purple.

The tummy and the boobs are what make up the cake in the requested flavour of our yummy red velvet cake, filled with white chocolate mousse.  The dress and details are made from fondant with added pink dragee.

We wish Priya and Andrew all the best and many happy days ahead with their
bundle of joy!

A Milestone for Tom

Also this past weekend my daughter's father-in-law celebrated his 60th birthday. And helping him celebrate were a few friends and relatives.  We were asked by Tom's wife Sue if we could come up with a special cake for Tom.  She gave us all kinds of ideas but when it came down to it, everyone seemed to say that when thinking of Tom they picture him relaxing in his easy chair with his lap top, a mug of coffee and a cross word on the go.  So this is what we came up with;

We decided to recreate his favourite pass time.  The chair is the cake which is our vanilla cake with a lemon curd & vanilla mousse filling.

His screen saver shows a birthday wish. The lamp shade is made from gum paste over a fondant covered dowel. The side table is also a fondant covered dowel with a round cardboard disc to form the table with a fondant table cloth. We also added a fondant afghan and rug to complete the scene.

His mug of coffee and his cross word & pencil are made from gum paste. We covered the board with chocolate fondant to create the hardwood floor and added our birthday wish.

We wish Tom a very happy birthday and many more to come!

50th Birthday

This past weekend a friend Marisa celebrated a milestone birthday. She is now 50 years young. Her sister Norma asked if we could make a # 50 cake to help celebrate and of course we accepted the offer.  Norma had sent me a picture of pillows that Marisa has which are in her favourite shades of blue to give us an idea of the colour pallet. So when we saw the pillows we immediate thought to take the design off the pillow and put it on her cake.  We were also told that Marisa loves sea shells so we added a few of those as well.

The # 50 cake was our yummy and very popular chocolate Guinness cake filled with white chocolate mousse.  We covered the cake in a light blue butter cream and then added the design from a deeper blue fondant.  The sea shells are made from gum paste and dusted in various shades of pinks with a touch of white.

I received a text message from Norma telling me that Marisa was surprised and the cake was a huge hit.
Happy 50th Birthday Marisa!

Birthday & Anniversary cakes

Josie, who we had done the FCB jersey for her husband's 40th a couple of weeks ago called us up and asked if we could make a couple of cakes to help celebrate a birthday and an anniversary on the same day.  These two 6" cakes were delivered to T2 Resto Lounge last Saturday.

This birthday cake was a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling, covered in butter cream rossetts and accented with silver dragees.  The flower and the heart are made from gum paste/fondant mix.

The next cake was celebrating an anniversary;

A lemon cake with lemon curd filling covered in white fondant with fondant pearl border. Flowers done in gum paste.

We wish both recipients all the best!
