1st Birthday carnival

This order came to us from Stephania for her little boy Daniel's 1st birthday which was held on Saturday in a park in Woodbridge. The party held under a big gazebo included a clown, popcorn maker, candy floss and lots of balloons and fun.

The cake requested was vanilla with a light vanilla/cookies & cream filling in a carnival theme. This was a 1st for us but fun to make.

A very colourful cake with the birthday boy's # under the big top. The big top turned out a little too high but hey it is a big top after all.  The bottom 2 tiers are cake where the tent and big top are Styrofoam covered in fondant.  All details are made from fondant.

We added fondant balloons on either side of Daniel's name with stars and circles in various colours highlighting the tiers.

HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY DANIEL!

WITH WARM WISHES FOR MANY MORE!

Beach Themed cupcakes

So if Friday's cupcakes weren't enough we had another order from Nerine for an event on Saturday evening. This time it was for 7 doz cupcakes and the theme was to be a beach theme.

We started by making gum paste sea shells as toppers and dusted them with corals, pinks, orange and white shades of edible dusting powders and added a little glitter here and there. We topped all the cupcakes with a teal blue butter cream to give the hint of the Caribbean sea then sprinkled a little golden brown sugar for a sand effect.

There were 2 doz red velvet

2 doz vanilla

2 doz strawberry flavoured

and 1 doz chocolate

I received a nice text message from Nerine thanking us and telling me the event went well and the cupcakes were a huge hit. She ordered more than she needed and so the children at church the next day got a little treat which they enjoyed very much.

Sweet 16 Diva cupcakes

This past week was busy which is always good. We had received an order for 6 doz cupcakes for pick up last Friday. They were actually ordered by Nerine who got our name from the last Diva cupcakes we made. These were to be for a Sweet 16 birthday held Friday night.

There were 2 doz vanilla cupcakes topped with hot pink fondant, a little butter cream to secure a little black handbag

There were also 2 doz red velvet cupcakes topped with zebra print fondant, a little butter cream to secure lilac bows

And finally there were 2 doz strawberry flavoured cupcakes topped with chocolate fondant, a little strawberry flavoured butter cream securing a gold sparkle & brown gum paste shoe

I received a very nice thank you from Latoya, mom of the 16 year old who's name we never got. Latoya texted me saying the cupcakes were a big hit.

Our Happy Birthday wishes go out to the Sweet 16!

Sugar n' spice and all things nice.....

Today was another celebration for the soon arrival of Melissa's little pink bundle of joy. Well maybe not pink as Melissa has decorated the baby's room in yellow & lilac.  We had recently done a baby shower cake, twinkle twinkle little star... for Tiffany, Melissa's sister.  They are both due within 3 weeks of each other. Tiffany, who is also a good friend of Mel's, asked us to make this cake for Melissa who's shower is today.

The cake requested is our Guinness chocolate cake which we filled with white chocolate mousse and chocolate ganache.  We were asked to include yellow flowers and purple butterflies. The butterflies are made from fondant and dusted with edible lilac shimmer while the daisies are made from fondant.

The little baby is made from gum paste and has a little lilac diaper on and a yellow flower in her hair. She is resting in a fondant/tylose mix sun flower.

The saying "Sugar n' spice and all things nice....." is added by fondant letters dusted in edible lilac shimmer.

We wish Melissa and her husband all the best and congratulations on the soon new arrival.

Engagement

This cake came to us by way of a referral from a friend. Najla and Bruce who were recently engaged were having the two families together to celebrate. Najla called and asked if we could make a small cake for them.

She asked for a red velvet cake, she wanted to incorporate the colour red and she also likes roses. She had no idea of what design she wanted and asked us to surprise her.  We started by making a 9" double layer red velvet heart with cream cheese filling.

The roses were made with gum paste as was the small banner. The hearts, leaves and love birds were all made from fondant.

The border was also made with fondant and little silver dragee were added for a little sparkle and the banner was propped up by 2 gum paste hearts.

Congratulations on your engagement
Najla & Bruce!

Jane's 50th

Friday marked a special day for Jane who is the wife of one of hubby's golf buddies. While Jane took the day off work to enjoy a golf game with some girl friends, Brian put together a party for a few friends to help celebrate Jane's 50th. Brian asked if we would be able to help by providing the cake. Though he didn't give us much to go on, the only criteria was that it had to be a gluten free chocolate cake.

Not sure where this was going to take us, we started with filling a double layer 8" square with cream cheese filling drizzled with carmel. Not knowing the person well we decided to play it safe and make a gift box. Bow and hearts are all made from fondant.

My hubby got the thumbs up from Brian and ran into Jane at the golf course this morning and she claims to have never eaten this much cake before. She loved it.

Happy 50th birthday Jane!

Little Black Dress

The theme for this next cake is the "little black dress".  This cake was ordered by Martha, one of our returning customers, for a good friend of hers turning 50. The theme of the party was black tie and the invite actually had a little black dress.

The two tiered cake is red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. Covered in white with black accents to give it that simple elegant look.

The top of the cake has of course the "little black dress" which was cut out of black fondant and adorned with a little bling.  There's a glass of pink champagne for our birthday girl.

The single red rose is made from gum paste and bordering the cakes and the bows are black ribbon with added bling.

Happy Birthday Sandra!

Senya's Christening

A while back we made a baby shower cake for Michelle who was expecting her 1st little one. She knew the baby was to be a girl and named her Senya. The cake was one of our Noah's Arc cakes and we had also made decorated baby cookies for each guest. It was so much fun making that for her and now we now have the honour of making little Senya's Christening cake.

Michelle knew what she wanted and emailed me a picture she saw so we thank who ever designed this cake as we drew inspiration from it.

This 3 tier cake, (10", 8" & 6") is all vanilla with a cookies and cream filling. The middle tier, covered in hot pink, has shiny pink dragees on it. Each tier is boardered by ribbon. The dots are made with fondant where the butterflies are made from gumpaste and highligted with silver and pink luster dust.

God Bless Senya on her Christening Day!

Monica's birthday

Mel's sister in law Monica is celebrating a birthday today. Last night a few friends helped her celebrate at "T2 Lounge" in Woodbridge. Of course we made her cake. Monica is definitely a hot pink and black girl and she had a specific design in mind.

An 8" and 6" round make up this chocolate cake filled with Oreo cream cheese.  All details are made with fondant. The initial on top was actually purchased by Monica, it's a wooden letter which we painted with edible silver and added edible black sparkle. We also added non-edible crystals on the top tier and on the board.

We added a couple of black fondant ribbon roses at the base of the M and one on the board. Mel, who was at the party said the party was great and cake was delicious, everyone enjoyed it and Monica was thrilled with it.

Happy Birthday Monica!

Canada Day with neighbours

A little over due but I just wanted to add this Canada Day celebration. It was actually the day after, Monday July 2nd that a few of our neighbours got together to enjoy each other's company over a few drinks and pot luck.  I opted to make pizza to share and the funny thing was when I arrived in my neighbour's back yard, one other neighbour exclaimed "pizza? what no cupcakes?" LOL. But I did make cupcakes.

I actually tried a couple of new recipes for the cupcakes and who better than neighbours to use as my Guinea pigs.  I made 1 doz vanilla, just slightly different than my regular recipe and 1 doz chocolate tiramisu.  The vanilla I filled with Oreo cream cheese and topped with butter cream and a sprinkle of Oreo cookie crumbs. The tiramisu I filled with Carmel cream topped with Carmel butter cream and a sprinkle of cocoa.  All were topped with a red fondant maple leaf fit for the occasion.

The cupcakes went over very well, everyone enjoyed them. One our neighbours exclaimed while eating the vanilla/oreo cream cheese that she thought she died and gone to heaven...hahahaha. You gotta love your neighbours. The tiramisu got a big thumbs up and I was told by a couple of neighbours that this recipe is definately a keeper.

We are actually blessed with wonderful neighbours but in our busy lives we don't get to see them often other than the occasional wave on our way in or out. But we do try to make a point of spending some quality time together on special days and Canada Day is one of them.

HAPPY CANADA DAY TO ALL!

Our Grads

We are very happy and proud to announce that my niece Alexandra and my nephew Vincent both graduated this year, Alex with honours from high school and will be attending University in the fall and Vincent will be starting high school in the fall.  They have had a week of celebrations between graduation ceremonies, proms and year end pool parties and in continuing the celebrations yesterday their mom, my sister-in-law, Dona and their Dad Vinny gave a fantastic bar-b-que for family in their honour. To help celebrate I made a few cupcakes to share.

Complete with little fondant grad caps and diplomas and since it was Canada Day I had to add in a few fondant maple leafs.  There were chocolate and vanilla cupcakes.  The chocolate were infused with carmel cream and covered with carmel butter cream drizzles with more carmel. The vanilla were infused with Oreo cream cheese filling and topped with vanilla butter cream drizzled with oreo cookie crumbs.

Congratulations to Alexandra and Vincent and all the best in future years!
We love you both!

Happy Canada Day to everyone!
