Super heros cake December 2015

This next cake I made was for a 6 year old, Nyan.  He loves super heroes, who doesn't.  Nyan Mom sent me a picture of this cake and asked if I could make it. So the design is not mine but loved making this. It challenged me with Hulk's fist.  Again, thanks to the Internet I found a great tutorial on how to make it.

A # 6 cake with Superman, Spider man, Batman and the Hulk's fist smashing through the cake. The fist was made with modeling chocolate. All details made with fondant.

I know I say it a lot but I loved making this cake and Nyan's mom said the reviews from the guests were great and Nyan just loved his cake.  Just what you like to hear.  After all isn't that what it's all about.

December 2015

Here are a couple of cakes I made last December 2015.  Both for babies and the 1st for a baby shower. Renee, the daughter of one of my neighbours was expecting and has welcomed a beautiful little girl born last February 2016.

Another one I loved making. This cute little topper was from a tutorial I found on line. Made with fondant.  Renee is a big fan of giraffes and elephants in the colours she chose.

Next one is for a christening of twins.  I had made the baby shower for this mommy, 2 peas in a pod cake.  She knew she was expecting twins and welcomed Chiara and Giancarlo to her family.

Their christening cake as requested by the twins aunt. Their christening was held in December 2015.

Alanna's baby shower Nov 2015

Also last November 2015 was another celebration.  My beautiful niece Alanna was expecting her 1st child. At the time of her shower she had no idea if the baby was going to be a boy or a girl. A winter wonderland themed cake was requested by mommy to be.

This delicious 2 tiered cake consisted of carrot cake filled with cream cheese filling for the bottom tier and vanilla cake filled with strawberries and cream for the top tier.  I used cake lace with the snow flake mat to create the beautiful wintery feel along the sides of the cake and dusted the snow flakes with soft pinks and blues.

The carriage was made with 1/2 Styrofoam ball covered with fondant and wire. All the details on the carriage are done in fondant.  I also added some coarse white sugar for frosty snow.  I loved making this cake and Alanna was thrilled with it.

February 2015 we welcomed precious Mikaela to our family.

Jon's 40th

Last November 2015 my son in law Jon had a major milestone. He celebrated his 40th birthday. How does this happen? One day our kids are little next thing we know they're middle aged. Not going to think what that makes us, LOL. John has a love for many creative things and one being his love for music.  My daughter Amanda thought it might be fitting to make his cake in the shape of one of his favourite guitars.

My daughter traced out his guitar to give me a template of the shape and pictures so I knew where things went.  My kids had a laugh at the party because when Amanda sent me pictures the guitar was on their wooden floor so I covered my board the same. I thought it was smart but they thought it funny.  Jon's favourite cake is carrot so that's what I made the guitar cake filled with cream cheese filling.

I had trouble putting guitar strings on, the fine wire I used kept curling on me so I left it and made it appear to be needing new strings.

Was a great party and Jon loved his cake.   Really that's what counts and the reason I love making cakes.
