April 18th 2015

Okay so this cake which I did for the 18th of April was so fun to make but I found it to be a odd request for a baby shower. This was requested by a friend of my friend Tina and apparently the mommy to be likes penguins and hockey. So the gals throwing her surprise baby shower thought it would be cute to incorporate a little daddy, mommy and baby penguin skating and possibly playing hockey.....so how did I do in my interpretation?

Here's Mommy and Daddy Penguin and Daddy penguin is all set for a game of hockey.......notice the skates on the penguins.  Found this real cute tutorial on how to make these adorable penguins.

and here is baby penguin who's fallen down....he needs a few more lessons from dad

and of course they wanted "They Scored!" as the saying on the cake.....I guess they are referring to Mommy and Daddy.....or maybe it's just a hockey thing LOL.

April 12 weekend 2015

Here are a few more cakes made for the weekend of April 12, 2015.

This 1st one was made for my good friend's mom who turned 80. No real specifications on design just wanted something feminine and elegant.

The next cake and cupcakes were for a pretty little girl's birthday. A giant cupcake with a fondant cherry on top.  She loves polka dots....can you tell.

The polka dots on these cupcakes are actually candy coated chocolates.....just a little added treat to the chocolate cupcakes.

This next cake was for a little girls Christening. Her mom had seen a similar cake on line so I can't take credit for the design, I just put my own style to it.  This is one of my favourite cakes I have done......

The cakes are wrapped with strips of fondant and the cascade of flowers are made from gum paste

Stay tuned, more to come........

Bridal Shower Easter weekend 2015

This cake was requested for a bridal shower over this past Easter weekend.  I believe the Mother of the Bride was given my name by a friend. The bride didn't actually want a cake but Mum thought what's a celebration without cake.  She contacted me and asked for a simple slab in white and told me the bride liked daisies. She did request that the daisies be coral in colour.

She requested that the saying be "Showers of Happiness" done in black on the top of the cake, so we decided that a little scroll work in black around the cake would be fun. This was done in fondant and black royal icing. A few black sugar pearls were also added.

March 2015

Just before leaving for our Cuba vacation I was thrilled to make a small cake for a special little girl. Ava, who is the niece of a close friend of mine, and I happened to make the cake for her mommy's baby shower, has now turned 1.  I was thrilled to be able to do this for Ava.

Her mom requested a giant cupcake for a small family gathering.  Pinks and colourful spring flowers were requested. I also added a few Cake Lace butterflies.

Then off to Cuba we go for a week of sun and fun.  We returned the start of our March break and I was back to work.

Next cake was requested for a bridal shower. They were quite specific on design and colours.

The buttercream rosettes on the bottom tier had edible luster dust added to make them sparkle but the pictures did not pick the sparkle up. The scroll work was done with royal icing and then painted gold with edible paint.  The 2 tier was topped with a gum paste peony.

The next cake was requested by a friend for her mom's birthday and I believe her sister in law was also celebrating a birthday. Since it was a small family gathering they asked for a small single tier with wishes extended to both.

They had no special requests for the design so I did a simple white on white with a touch of pink. Since this cake was requested at the time I was making the peony for the bridal shower cake I thought I would make another and add it to this cake.

This next cake was requested for a baby shower. They gave a general idea of what they wanted in the way of design and colours.  And since they already knew they were having a boy obviously the colours were blue and white.  The parents to be had already picked a name for the new little one so I was asked to add it to the cake. This was a cute and fun one to make.

The elephant topper and the bow were done in gum paste.  The family of elephants was done in fondant from a clip art picture.

Don't go anywhere, there are more cakes to come.......

Last weeks of February 2015

The cookies above were made by a friend of mine Tina. She makes amazing cookies but was in a bind and asked if I could help her as she had too much on her plate that week.  She brought the blank cookies and asked if I could decorate them for a destination wedding. These cookies were decorated in fondant with royal icing details. The waves were done with royal icing using the brush embroidery method. Course sugar was used to make the sand sparkle.  They were then packaged by Tina and were traveling with the wedding party to their destination wedding.

This next cake was requested by a friend of my husband. They were having a family celebration and asked for a small cake.  I was giving a picture of the family crest and made an edible print.  The fondant detailing around the cake was to mimic the blue and white checkerboard within the crest.

The next cake was requested from a good friend of mine for her sister Anna who was celebrating her 60th.  I have had the pleasure of meeting Anna and found she loves purses. So we made a generic purse in black and white fondant.

A string of fondant pearls, a gum paste broach and a cameo ring were added around the purse as Anna loves jewelry even more.  We added a couple of gum paste roses in pink to add that touch of colour.

The last cake for that weekend was for my cousin's grandson Christian who at the time was very much into anything to do with Spiderman.  So his mommy asked me to make a small Spiderman cake and some Spiderman cupcakes for his party.

Since it's been quite a while since these cakes, cupcakes were made I do have trouble remembering the flavours.  I know they are in my files somewhere but I do remember Christian's cake and cupcakes were chocolate with chocolate filling.  Christian's and his mommy's favourite.  The cupcakes are topped with Spiderman faces done in fondant.

That's all my catch up for February 2015.  There will be more catching up to do for March, April, May and so on until we get to this month which happens to be September 2015.  There are a couple of breaks as hubby and I enjoyed a week in Cuba in March and then 2 weeks in Europe July and August 2015 and not to mention a few renovations here and there.  But back to work, so until my next update Ciao!

February 2015 catch up

Here are few of the cakes I worked on the weekend of February 14, 2015.  1st up is a basket ball cake and cookies for Riciardo who is a OKC fan. All details done in fondant with OKC logo in edible print

Gave the jersey cookies #10 as it was Riciardo's 10th birthday being celebrated. The cookies are our delicious sugar cookies with fondant details.

Next up for that week end was a cake for a baby shower and knowing that the new baby was a girl the colours are pink which are the mommy to be's favourite colour........

A cute pregnant belly cake all dress in pink with darker pink and white details. Baby's little foot protruding gives the caption "Ready to Pop" some life.  I'm sure the little bundle made her appearance shortly after the baby shower. Perhaps we will get to meet her some day soon.

The next cake for that weekend was a 1st birthday cake for Joey. We had done his Christening cake a few short months before and Mom gave me a call to make his cake for this special occasion and we were thrilled to do it.

This cute Sesame Street cake has Joey's favourite character Elmo featured. Elmo's fur is done in butter cream. Nose, eyes and mouth are done in fondant along with the bright and colourful #'s and alphabet and the Sesame Street sign sporting Joey's name and age.

August 26, 2015

A lot of catching up to do

Here it is nearing the end of August 2015 and my last post was back at the beginning of February 2015, how bad is that. Well a lot has happening in that time mainly some home renovations and baking and decorating in between.  We also had a couple of vacations in there, Cuba in March and 2 weeks in Europe end of July beginning of August.  Oh how I miss bella Italia!  Anyhoo I've also had the munchkins, mostly Jackson all summer and school will be starting in a couple of weeks. Whoohoo and our little Jules is all grown up and ready for JK.

I promise to catch up on some of the cakes I did in this lost time and I will try to keep you posted on a regular basis.  So until then, stay cool.
