Retirement Cake

This cake was ordered by a friend for her parents and picked up this morning for a retirement party this afternoon.  The recipients of this cake have owned & run a ornamental railing, etc business for many years and have decided to sell and take advantage of an early retirement to enjoy their lives together to the fullest. To help them get started their 3 daughters decided to throw them a surprise retirement party.  The cake design idea was given to us by Tina, their eldest daughter.  The top of the cake was to recreate the invite, an inter-office message from their company.  She also wanted to incorporate a railing/fence effect on one side of the cake signifying the start of their venture together and the other side to depict a serene beach scene to signify enjoying the rest of their life in leisure.

The cake is a 1/2 slab vanilla double layered and filled with french vanilla mousse and fresh strawberries. The message note on the top was created with gum paste and message written in edible markers.  All details of the fence and beach scene were made from gum paste, brown sugar was used for the sand. A gum paste book and a golf club and golf ball were added along with his & her flip flops and sea shells to complete the beach scene.

WE WISH SERGIO & EUNICE ALL THE BEST AND ALL THE ENJOYMENT THAT RETIREMENT WILL OFFER!

Catch Up

Well it's been a while since we last posted.  We since have a beautiful new baby girl in the family.  Mel gave birth to the most adorable little angel, Juliana Elisa, born June 18th, 2011.  You can just imagine that I'm in my glory with having the sweetest grandson anyone could ask for and now the most adorable granddaughter. Does life get any better?  Here's a little sneak peek at my 2 precious grand kids.

Jackson just loves being a big brother and simply adores his little sister. Let's see how long that lasts, LOL.

He can't get enough of her.  Soooooooooo cute!

Christening Cake

This cake was just picked up this morning - our friend Nelson who will be Godfather today to Lucas, his cousin's little baby boy, asked if we could make a cake for their celebration.  The only request was that the cake be vanilla cake/strawberries so that's what we did.  10" square cake & a 6" round filled with vanilla mouse and fresh strawberries.  He left the design up to us, which is always fun.  We decided to quilt the bottom square tier and adorned the quilting with blue dragees.  We added a blue gum paste bow with a fondant band around the top tier, and topped it off with a gum paste cross and a little sleeping baby also made out of gum paste.  We also added a few little doves here and there which were dusted with a little white glitter.  We are quite happy with the way it turned out. A precious cake for a precious little boy.

God Bless you Lucas and we wish you a wonderful life ahead!
