Tony's 40th

This past Saturday night marked a mile stone for Tony who happens to be a good friend of Mel's. Tony's fiance Sarah planned a surprise party to celebrate and asked if we could make a cake to mark the special event.

As Tony is very big into baseball and coaches, Sarah asked if we could make the cake a baseball theme.  She provided a picture of Tony with the championship medals won by his team.

The picture is an edible print and the cake is covered and detailed in the team colours of black & orange.  The requested flavour for this cake was Chocolate Guinness filled with white chocolate mousse.

Happy 40th Tony!
and wishes for many more wonderful years.

God Bless Alina

It doesn't seem that long ago that we made a baby shower cake for Melissa and Marko's little bundle. This past Sunday they celebrated their little Alina's Christening and once again asked if we could make a cake for the celebration.

Melissa had a specific design in mind and asked that a little pink and silver be added. She also sent us a picture of little Alina's shoes that would be worn on her Christening day and asked if we could make a similar pair for the top of the cake.

The shoes and all the daisies are made from gum paste. The 2 tier cake is our very popular Chocolate Guinness cake filled with white chocolate mousse.

We had the pleasure of meeting little Alina when Melissa and Marko came by to pick up the cake. She is one very pretty and special little girl and we wish her all the best.

Goodbye tummy, hello Mummy

This past Saturday marked a special day for Priya and her hubby as friends and family celebrated the soon arrival of their little baby girl.  Jaya, Priya's sister contacted us requesting a similar cake to one we had recently done, our "goodbye tummy, hello mummy" cake for a jack & jill baby shower being given.

Since Priya and her husband Andrew know that they are expecting a little girl Jaya asked that the colours used were pink & purple.

The tummy and the boobs are what make up the cake in the requested flavour of our yummy red velvet cake, filled with white chocolate mousse.  The dress and details are made from fondant with added pink dragee.

We wish Priya and Andrew all the best and many happy days ahead with their
bundle of joy!

A Milestone for Tom

Also this past weekend my daughter's father-in-law celebrated his 60th birthday. And helping him celebrate were a few friends and relatives.  We were asked by Tom's wife Sue if we could come up with a special cake for Tom.  She gave us all kinds of ideas but when it came down to it, everyone seemed to say that when thinking of Tom they picture him relaxing in his easy chair with his lap top, a mug of coffee and a cross word on the go.  So this is what we came up with;

We decided to recreate his favourite pass time.  The chair is the cake which is our vanilla cake with a lemon curd & vanilla mousse filling.

His screen saver shows a birthday wish. The lamp shade is made from gum paste over a fondant covered dowel. The side table is also a fondant covered dowel with a round cardboard disc to form the table with a fondant table cloth. We also added a fondant afghan and rug to complete the scene.

His mug of coffee and his cross word & pencil are made from gum paste. We covered the board with chocolate fondant to create the hardwood floor and added our birthday wish.

We wish Tom a very happy birthday and many more to come!

50th Birthday

This past weekend a friend Marisa celebrated a milestone birthday. She is now 50 years young. Her sister Norma asked if we could make a # 50 cake to help celebrate and of course we accepted the offer.  Norma had sent me a picture of pillows that Marisa has which are in her favourite shades of blue to give us an idea of the colour pallet. So when we saw the pillows we immediate thought to take the design off the pillow and put it on her cake.  We were also told that Marisa loves sea shells so we added a few of those as well.

The # 50 cake was our yummy and very popular chocolate Guinness cake filled with white chocolate mousse.  We covered the cake in a light blue butter cream and then added the design from a deeper blue fondant.  The sea shells are made from gum paste and dusted in various shades of pinks with a touch of white.

I received a text message from Norma telling me that Marisa was surprised and the cake was a huge hit.
Happy 50th Birthday Marisa!

Birthday & Anniversary cakes

Josie, who we had done the FCB jersey for her husband's 40th a couple of weeks ago called us up and asked if we could make a couple of cakes to help celebrate a birthday and an anniversary on the same day.  These two 6" cakes were delivered to T2 Resto Lounge last Saturday.

This birthday cake was a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling, covered in butter cream rossetts and accented with silver dragees.  The flower and the heart are made from gum paste/fondant mix.

The next cake was celebrating an anniversary;

A lemon cake with lemon curd filling covered in white fondant with fondant pearl border. Flowers done in gum paste.

We wish both recipients all the best!

Thomas the Train scene

Also this past Saturday was another birthday for Liam who also turned 3.  His mom contacted us and asked if we could make a Thomas the Train cake for him. She just needed the scenery as she wanted to use a little Thomas the Train engine she had bought for Liam.  Hopefully we will get a picture sent to us with the little engine on the cake and perhaps with Liam.

It was decided to go with a 2 tier cake so we did the bottom layer in chocolate with cookies & cream for the filling and the top was vanilla cake with lemon curd & vanilla mousse filling.

The bottom cake was carved to create a steep hill for the train tracks coming from the top tunnel and around and down and into the bottom tunnel.  All details are made from fondant.

Happy 3rd Birthday Liam!
We hope you enjoyed your day!

Jackson's 3rd Birthday

Well another year has pasted and our sweet little man Jackson has turned 3. It seems like yesterday that he was born and made me a grandma.  Jackson's request for his birthday cake this year was "Angry Birds".  His birthday is actually the 29th of October but his party was held this past Saturday with his friends there to help him celebrate.

This is the 2nd Angry Birds cake we have done but it was lots of fun making this for our little guy especially seeing his face light up when he saw his cake and I got a big hug and a "thank you Nonna".

The cake is an 9"x13" vanilla and chocolate layers with cookies & cream filling.  The birds & pigs along with all other details were made with fondant/tylose mix.

Happy 3rd Birthday my angel!
