Sweet 16 topsy turvy cake

Hi everyone, here's our latest cake that we just finished and due for delivery tomorrow.  This order came to us from a friend of friend.  Nice to know that our name gets passed around and generates orders.  This cake is for twin girls, Monica & Jessica turning 16! Their mom ordered a cake to celebrate the momentous occasion but really wasn't sure what type of design she wanted.  We were asked to make a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling.  The only other criteria was that it had to be mainly blue, the girls favourite colour and to incorporate a couple of girly things.  This is what we came up with;

This was our 1st topsy turvy cake and we think it turned out quite nice. It does take a little more patience but the effect of a topsy turvy is well worth the extra time & effort. Actually it was a little easier than we thought it would be.  The top tier and the board are covered in white fondant with small hearts and stars imprinted and painted with bright colours.  The bottom tier is covered in electric blue fondant with diamond fondant cutouts.  All other details are made from gum paste and painted with food colour and a little vodka.  You can't tell from the picture but the whole cake is sprayed with glitter.  Mom wanted to have a nail polish bottle, lipstick etc added. This was a fun cake to make.  Let's hope our birthday girls love it.

Happy Sweet 16 Monica & Jessica!
